It is in the same family as Artane and Cogentin, drugs which were used to treat PD before the advent of L-DOPA. The side-effects of Benadryl (generic name is Diphenhydramine) are those of most of the anticholinergics; i.e., sleepiness, dry mouth, occasional blurring of vision, and occasional problems with bladder function in men who have prostate problems.
