The Canadian Journal of Native Studies is a highly recognized journal in the field of Native Studies. It comes out on a biannual basis, and publishes original research that is refereed by peer review. General in focus, the journal publishes articles that deal with the anthropological, historical, sociological, political, legal, educational and cultural issues affecting First Nations people. Although the majority of articles deal with Indigenous peoples in Canada, it also publishes articles dealing with Indigenous peoples worldwide. A good measure of the journal's influence is the vast number of sources that index the title. These include: Abstracts of Native Studies, America: History and Life, Anthropological Index, Bibliography of Natives of North America, Canadian Index, Canadian Periodical Index, First Nations Periodical Index, and MLA International Bibliography. The online edition of this journal has been made available through a joint project between Bearpaw Publishing and the John E. Robbins Library at Brandon University. The aim of the project is to mount all back issues of the journal, two years after the volume has been published, and make them available for free. The Canadian Journal of Native Studies is a publication of the Society for the Advancement of Native Studies, and is the official publication of The Canadian Indian/Native Studies Association. It is funded with the assistance of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Manitoba Education and Training's CareerStart program, and Brandon University.
