Good morning Sylvia, and welcome to the group. One big problem
many of us (especially men) have is the denial of our symptoms
and of the disease itself. Will your father admit that he has trouble
walking or with his balance? Would he be more accepting at this
point if his condition was described as a movement disorder?

There are people who have been in your situation in this group and
also in the PD caretakers group. To join the latter, send a
message to:

[log in to unmask]

and in the body of the message type this command:

subscribe CARE Sylvia Rogers

Also for information see the National Parkinson's Foundation web
site at www.parkinson.org. There are many others. I put together
a list at www.pdindex.org.

It sounds like your general MD is not dealing with the problem
appropriately. All of the symptoms you describe are consistent
with a diagnosis of PD, and many of them would be helped by
proper medication. Who made the diagnosis? How was the
diagnosis communicated to the general MD?

Ideally your father should be treated by a good movement disorder
specialist, as might be found in an academic medical center, or at
least his general MD should be working in consultation with one.

Best wishes,
