Barbara - PWP who are drug intolerant usually get good relief from DBS. Dick has never been able to take more than 3 regular Sinemet a day, and even at that level had painful dystonia which left him all twisted up. And he still had the horrible severe tremor. After DBS, the tremor went away completely and the dsytonia was much less. He had the older version of DBS, the pallidal stimulation, which doesn't address as many of the symptoms as the currently-used STN. He now takes 1/2 Sinemet three times a day, plus one Mirapex three times a day. If he'd had STN, presumably he wouldn't even need that much medication. If you see a MDS, you might ask about the feasibility of the surgery and begin to educate yourself on what's available, etc. Margie, cg for Dick, 56/19 << What do people with PD do when they cannot take drugs?
