http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-NS-01-002.html NINDS ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPLEMENTS FOR RESEARCH ON PARKINSON'S DISEASE Release Date: November 16, 2000 NOTICE: NS-01-002 National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announces an administrative supplement program of up to $3 million in FY2001 to foster additional research on Parkinson's Disease (PD) across a wide variety of scientific disciplines, and to allow investigators not currently working in PD to join the field. This supplemental funding initiative is issued in response to recommendations in the Parkinson's Disease Research Agenda, available on the website: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/about_ninds/nihparkinsons_agenda.htm calling for innovative funding mechanisms. This program is intended to facilitate research within ongoing, peer-reviewed projects that have Specific Aims on PD, or Specific Aims within other areas that may translate to PD (see bullets below). These one-time supplements are intended to help grantees develop preliminary data for new R21's or R01's. Principal Investigators (PIs) with Research Project (R01), Exploratory/Developmental (R21), FIRST (R29), Phase II SBIR (R44), Program Project (P01), and Specialized Center (P50 or U54) grants are eligible to apply. To be eligible, projects must have a Project Period End Date of April 30, 2002, or later (a no-cost extension beyond that date does not confer eligibility). Evidence should be presented that the results of the supplemental assistance will enhance the pursuit of Specific Aims of the research project, and be focused on Parkinson's Disease, without constituting an expansion of scope. Supplements are one-time awards and will not extend to subsequent years. Specific examples of supplemental requests that may be considered include, but are not limited to: Requests involving the basic cellular and molecular biology or basic pathophysiology of PD within existing PD grants. Analysis of animal models, developed through existing grants on other disorders, for potential use in PD. Models may include invertebrates. Requests within existing grants on the development of biomarkers or genetic tools in neurodegnerative diseases to include PD.
