nice thoughts and poetry everyone

writing/poetry reveals the wisdom of our culture--
what kind of culture is being developed by this list?

many times the most beautiful writing
on this list is found in our shared compassion
not just commiseration
our expression of who we are
and our experiences will leave a legacy

i seldom have the patience for
metered and rhymed poetry
which can be incredibly powerful
especially set to music

i prefer to just write

poetry -- to me
is when i can leave conventional structures
and
just write
the essence
condensed imagery
like sculpture should be

i'd love to
but, today i need to take my teenager in to the doctor
for possible strep throat
not much time

i wrote something a while back
about the prairie winds from the abyss
((so it is on the old computer and i can't get to it))

it was a letter to a friend
that winters in Mexico
working summers here
he lives on an old farmstead
i was checking on things at his house
while he was away

he has never had locks on his doors
he collects art

--as i remember--

i took a walk
through the surrounding grove of trees
and listened to the voices of the pioneers
in the wind

i came across artifacts
in long abandoned trash heaps
among snow drifts

rock piles
broken bottles
rusted machinery
pieces of antique toys

pieces of hopes and dreams

revealing the transience of life
windy pioneer voices
saying we lived here
we loved here
we died here

reminds me of the archives of this list
speaking from the past
bits and pieces of living thoughts
captured in the electronic maelstrom
international comrades
windblown pioneer voices
living and dying with this disease
