I don't know if this is relevant but I think genetic research has identified
two types of PD based on genes: a gene relating to alpha-synnuclein and the
Parkin gene. (They've also identified 3 other types by some sort of process
of elimination/genealogy that I don't fully understand. More types to come,
I guess.)

So I guess that different types of PD might involve different proteins,
though I haven't heard of this.
