In addtion to the main conference there is also a pre conference workshop, about expanding health coverage to adults and people with disabilities, on the state level. This workshop is free. The following is from the Families USA website, which has much info on health and disability advocacy. See http://www.familiesusa.org Health Action 2001 Grassroots Health Advocacy Conference Washington, DC January 25th. to 27th. 2001 Pre-conference Intensive Workshop on State Health Care Coverage Expansions One of Families USA's top priorities over the next year will be to promote efforts at the state level to expand health coverage to adults (younger and older) and people with disabilities, and to work with state and local groups to win those expansions. As many of the advocates who work with Families USA on these issues will be coming to the January 25-27 Health Action 2001conference, it made sense to schedule a more intensive day-long workshop on the subject the day before the conference. This workshop will be held at The Mayflower Hotel, the same hotel as Health Action 2001. Details The workshop will be held from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday, January 24th. There will be no charge for the workshop (courtesy of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Lunch and dinner will be provided for participants of the workshop. Participants must cover their own travel, hotel costs, and registration fees for the Health Action 2001 conference, but you don't have to be registered for the Health Action 2001 conference in order to participate in this pre-conference intensive workshop. What Will be Discussed The workshop will explore strategies for expanding health coverage at the state level as well as the relevant federal laws and regulations in this area (new and old). It will also feature extensive discussion with advocates in states that have successfully accomplished expansions, looking at the substance of what they did and the components of their campaigns. The purpose of the workshop intent is to stress the strategies and tactics of expansion campaigns, but substantive issues will also be explored. Is will be presumed that the audience knows the basics about Medicaid and/or the children's health program. Focus will be on expansions for parents, seniors, and people with disabilities. Please note: This set of issues will also be covered at the Health Action 2001 conference, but less intensively. YOU NEED TO REGISTER To participate in the pre-conference workshop, fill out the Workshop Registration Form below. If your browser will not support forms, please use the attached printable form and fax it to Shelly Pondexter at 202-347-2417. Registration for this workshop will end on January 5, 2001.
