Bruce, Whenever I've had that kind of trouble with a mouse, I usually find that a new mouse pad is the answer. BTW, my wife recently got a laptop which uses a mouse that utilizes a beam of light instead of a ball. It works on any surface (except clear ones). Rees Jenkins
