Bill,

My mom had a hip replacement and had a great deal of trouble following the
anesthesia and surgery (it was an emergency because of a bad fall in our
driveway). When she had it redone, the doctor used a localized anesthesia
and a drug that would make her forget the whole experience. Her recovery
was amazingly fast. This was 10 years ago and the doctors tell us that they
have improved the anesthetic drugs greatly. (She just had cataract surgery
this summer.)

She also has had swelling and it has been the result of various drugs
(mirapex caused the problem last year). Today we learned that the Vioxx
might be the culprit for her recent edema so we are switching to Tylenol
Arthritis. She does not have arthritis but aches because of the rigidity.

Hope you get some helpful answers when you visit your physician.
