hi all i do believe that our discussion on copyrights is getting bogged down in cross-purposes and semantics the internet and e-mail have been around for 30 years and have been essentially government and academic non-profit territory the world wide web and web sites have been around only for 10 years the commercialization of same has only taken off in a big way in the past 5 years imho the commerical wwweb is the area where copyrights and infringement thereof have become of great concern and justifiably so: the wwweb is probably the publishing ground of the future posting a copy of an article in an email message to a non-profit listserver facility (archives not searchable by wwweb crawlers) could be equated to sending a mimeographed copy of an article to my buddies! uploading a copy of an article on a web-page to a commercial website (all hyper-linked pages serachable by wwweb crawlers) could be equated to mounting it on a public billboard surrounded by flashing lights! this is a whole new frontier in law/publishing and nothing is set in concrete anywhere on the globe fwiw 1 i contacted PubMed and NandoNet directly two years ago in re my posting articles of theirs to the pd list; neither of them saw it as a problem since it was a non-profit and non-commercial use fwiw 2 html, the language of the wwweb, was specifically created to be open and shared; trying to tie it down to *established* publishing regulations could be equated to wrestling with a greased pig to my mind, the basis for any copyright regulations is about plain and simple etiquette my personal guideline is: in a non-profit situation, use my words freely, with accreditation, please. in a profit situation, use my words only with my permission, please. janet janet paterson, an akinetic rigid subtype parkie 53 now /44 dx cd / 43 onset cd /41 dx pd / 37 onset pd TEL: 613 256 8340 SMAIL: POBox 171 Almonte Ontario K0A 1A0 Canada EMAIL: [log in to unmask] URL: http://www.geocities.com/janet313/
