Laptops are VERY fragil. They are like babies. Don't ever put them in ur car or trunk. Hold them in ur hand or put them in a car seat:) NO joke I buckle mine in. It is 5 years old and by now they could have given me a free one twice. i have a presario and have had 3 hardrives 5 keyboards, ect. Right now I am sure my friends are smiling saying I should have bought a MAC:) Anyway email me off-line and I will try to help u with ur compaq. They got tired me with my 5 year warranty. The 1 time I splurged and purchase a warranty. However, I use the computer about 10 hours a day to run things, ect. They even come to my home. Texas does not like me calling them. BTW whenever u purchase a laptop - many times the buyer can get the additional warranty anytime before that first year is up. SO if u are not sure in the store if u want the warranty , u do have time to think about it. ALso, there are factory warranties and the store warranties which are different with regards to how they handle a claim. I ask now if someone hits it with a hammer is the warranty good and show me where it says that. If they can and I call the manufacture and they fax me written proof, then it's worth it. Otherwise they will just blame failure on 'irresponsible consumer care'. If I were going to look at a laptop today I would look into Sony. VOIO I think it is. Every time they seem to costs about 2500. because of the space. Yearly the computer magazines have a top 10 laptop endurance test where they drop them , heat and chill them, ect. HP i don't think they make laptops... Offlist remind me to tell u a cute story about Mr. Hewlett. A very generous man I will add. nancy
