As love poems celebrating the union we have with our carers seem to be the
flavour of the month, I make this contribution to the thread.

Knots

The day begins with eager morning cats
tying soft knots of love around my feet,
hot coffee, buttered toast and shorthand chats
fragments of dreams and then sweet
hugs and rushed good-byes, the crash
of doors, then you and I and silence.

Now there is time to think about today
as part of twenty years of yesterdays,
make lists; the shopping, doctor, bills to pay.
What should we keep? What should we throw away?
You hand me a fresh coffee and we start -
tying more knots of love around our hearts .
