Mary,
I am a 59 year old retired pharmacist who has had PD for 23 years. I have
several friends who are taking Comtan. The COMT enzyme may interfere with the
levodopa during its transport from the intestines to the brain. It breaks the
lovodopa down into an ineffective product. Comtan prevents this from happening.
Only one friend had to discontinue it because he was getting severe dyskinesia.
The others did notice dyskinesia but lowering the daily intake of Sinemet took
care of the problem.. I feel it is a very good medication if the Sinemet is
starting to fail you a bit. You are taking Sinemet, aren't you?
