COOPER, George J., Jr., MD Wednesday, February 14, 2001 COOPER, George J., Jr., MD -- A long-time resident of Atherton and Los Altos, died Feburary 9, 2001, of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 82. Dr. Cooper was born March 16,1918, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Stanford University and received his medical degree from Duke University. At Duke he met Julia Wilda Wynne, a nursing student. They were married in 1942. Following an internship in surgery, Dr. Cooper served with the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He continued his medical residency following the war, and moved to the Bay Area in 1951. He practiced general surgery until his retiremenrt in 1987. During his years of practice, Dr. Cooper was an active member of the medical staffs at Stanford and Sequoia hospitals, and was Chief of Staff and Surgery at Sequoia Hospital. Dr. Cooper is survived by his wife of 58 years; son George J. Cooper III of Lake Oswego, Oregon; daughters Diane York of Lakeside and Karen Hall of Kentfield; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Jere. At his request there will be no services.
