Joan Snyder honored for her fight against Parkinson's

Joan Snyder is living with Parkinson's Disease and the term living is the key.

In her fight against this disease Snyder has done much work to advance
research about Parkinson's disease and to provide support to those who also
suffer with it.

On Feb. 3, Snyder invited Dr. Phillip Jobe and Dr. Richard Weber, to
discuss their work in the field of neurological disorders and treatment.

The afternoon was part of the regular meeting of the Central Illinois
Parkinson's Disease Support Group.

Snyder said she chose Dr. Weber in particular because his work does not
contradict her strong Roman Catholic beliefs in such areas as stem cell
research and cloning.

At the support group meeting Snyder also received the "Travels with
Parkinson's Award," for outstanding service to the Parkinson's Community.

The award was given by Leonard "Chy" Casavant who hosts a radio call-in
show called, "Travels with Parkinson's."

Upon the request of Snyder, Casavant had traveled to Peoria to broadcast
live from the Feb. 3 meeting.

Snyder's next project to aid the Parkinson's Community is the "Links for a
Cure: 2001" golf outing and family day.

The golf outing will be held Saturday, July 7 at Donovan Golf Course and
the family day will be held at Three Sisters Park while the golf outing is
taking place.

This event will feature golf, bocci ball, music and much more.

For more information about "Links for a Cure: 2001" or the Parkinson's
