hi again this article will also be added to the Maine Parkinson Society website at: http://www.geocities.com/maineparkinsonsociety/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cyclist Riding For Parkinson Disease Welcomed To Wiscasset September 21, 2000 - A little rain last Friday didn't dampen the spirits of the President of the Maine Parkinson Society, Karen Bardo, who waited in the rain to welcome Lou Ellis to Wiscasset. Ellis and her husband Al are bicycling from Fort Kent to Kittery to promote awareness of Parkinson's disease. Bardo, who works in the Wiscasset school department's special services office, presented Ellis with a package of tulip bulbs. The annual tulip bulb sale of Dr. James Parkinson bulbs will begin September 22-28. "The proceeds from the sale will be used to improve the quality of life of Maine people with Parkinson's disease through education and public awareness," Bardo said. Biking and riding with Ellis through Wiscasset were Patricia and George Rice from Patten. The four have been taking turns bicycling and riding in a car during their journey. The couple invited other riders and cyclists to join them on the trip. The event began in Fort Kent September 9 and ended in Kittery September 16. The Ellis Maine Event is focused on finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. It was partly designed to raise funds for research through help of the Maine Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, a nonprofit organization, which ensures that 100 percent of the money raised by the event will be donated to research for the disease.
