Published Thursday, February 22, 2001 Medtronic 3rd-quarter profit rises on heart devices Bloomberg News Medtronic Inc., the world's largest pacemaker company, said fiscal third-quarter profit rose 16 percent as sales of devices that regulate heart rhythm and treat neurological diseases increased. Profit from operations for the quarter ended Jan. 26 rose to $313.9 million, or 26 cents a share, from $271.6 million, or 22 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 8 percent to $1.36 billion from $1.26 billion. Sales of devices that regulate and restore heart rhythm, including implantable defibrillators and pacemakers, rose 11 percent to $645 million.
