Camilla's posting reminded me of a service that we used when Mother was in
the nursing home......and her glasses had been "misplaced".

She had purchased her glasses from a Lenscrafter store in Nebraska (however,
she was in a nursing home in Indiana).  I went to the Lenscrafter store to
see if they could access prescription/etc.....for replacement glasses.  It
was then I learned that Lenscrafter's would send an employee TO THE NURSING
HOME(!)  with several frames to allow Mother  to select new frames.....and
then return several hours later with the new glasses....AT NO CHARGE OTHER
THAN ROUTINE COSTS for the glasses.  This is a national program at
Lenscrafters.....will also do "at home" visits for shutins.

You might want to check with any of the local franchises (or whatever they
are) of the national chains to see if this service is available to your
family members...especially if getting out and around is difficult or
dementia is a challenge (as it was with mother).

I have never seen this service advertised or promoted by any chain.......but
it was READILY  offered when we asked how we could get new glasses for Mother.
