By all means tell the doctor if it hurts too much. When I had my brain surgery (an implant of 12 million pig cells) the halo was similarly fastened and yes, there was some pain from the aluminum bolts. But it wasn't too horrible. Maybe they can give you a little more local anesthetic. Jim Finn
