One more suggestion for e-mails to Congress: Summarize your position in the subject line (e.g., Subject: Support continued funding of stem cell research). The volume of e-mail is so enormous (as the article mentioned) that simply counting the "yes" and "no" votes of the mailers is all a member of Congress can do. Make your "vote" easy to count by making it unnecessary for the staff to even open your e-mail. As frustrating as it is to have a member of Congress ignore your carefully crafted e-mail message, you can still get your point across. It's not unusual to hear a member of Congress explain a vote by saying, "My mail's running 3 to 1 for (or against) this."
