This is precisely what I understand we have proposed. There's also the
possibility of another dinner at a place called Berghoff's right around the
corner . . .

Subject: Clarification: Canadian Caucus at 4Cs 2002

Hi everyone,

I'm really pleased at the enthusiasm for the idea of the online workshop.
Let me
clarify, however, what Roger and I have suggested.

1) The Canadian Caucus will meet as part of the regular 4Cs. (At least I
hope we
can be certain about that. Roger will chair the session; I sent in the
proposal
online yesterday hours before the deadline.) I've asked for a Thursday
evening
slot, which is usually a 6-7 p.m. session. When we get the acceptance form
in the
Fall, there is an opportunity to add names of people who will be speaking.
So for
those of us whose conference funding relies on a speaking role, this is a
chance
to get our names in the program. However, we will have to nominate someone
to send
out "official" letters inviting those people to speak at the caucus. (I did
it
this year, mostly by e-mail and with a little help from two colleagues,
Amanda and
Tracy. I'm willing to work with Roger on it for next year.)

2) Roger is proposing to book a computer lab at DePaul's downtown campus for
us to
do a Saturday workshop on teaching online. This will be entirely up to us--
with
no connections to the Cs. However, we can peer review the proposals and send
out
letters to presenters so they can apply for funding. (Graham and I did this
for
several years when we were organizing the roundtable.) Russ and Marcy have
said
they'd like to help out with this, so we can spread the work around.

3) There will be no official Canadian roundtable-- no one sent in a proposal
due
to lack of timely response on the list. The Caucus will, in effect, become
the
roundtable. Although the session is usually listed as an hour long, we can
use the
room for as long as we need to. (Although not as long as we did this year, I
hope.... The hungry folks left before we were finished.) So even those of
you who
have proposals accepted in other sessions are free to speak at the Caucus.
It's
also a good place to speak if your proposal is rejected by the Cs committee.

I think that's it-- Roger, please clarify my clarification if I've
misunderstood
anything.

Janice
