Further Thoughts (April 2001):
Although the "cause" of levodopa-induced dyskinesia is well
confirmed, precisely why it happens remains a mystery, subject
to intense research. The (probably oversimplified) popular ex-
planation is that LID results from overstimulation, either acute
or chronic, of dopamine receptors. From that statement, a PD
patient or caregiver may derive whatever he or she needs to know,
in order to select drugs and dosage to meet conflicting
requirements of symptom relief, quality of life, and rate of
future deterioration. If however this doesn't satisfy your
