Mary,

I haven't taken Paxil but I have prescribed it on a number of
occasions. It does not as a rule cause extrapyramidal side effects but I
guess it can in PWPs I had the same thing happen with aciphex, a drug for
stomach ulcers. I tried 3 times to start it and wound up with dystonia
each time. I doubt that the feeling of pins and needles is an
extrapyramidal side effect but it may be caused by Paxil any way.
Extrapyramidal side effects of drugs are usually to anti-psychotic drugs
that block dopamine. They usually cause a dystonia which comes on
suddenly. Paxil should not cause Extrapyramidal side effects to my
knowledge- But my personal experience with aciphex is that even drugs that
are not usual offenders almost any drug must be considered as
possibly guilty in any person especially in PWP. What problems with
Paxil are you having now?

For Beryl- the pins and needles feeling is probably not related to
extrapyramidal side effects unless it is a feeling that you have got to get
up and move around .

Paxil is a good antidepressant (and recently was approved for use with
social phobia) but there are a number of others that can be used.
