Here's what the American Hospital Association reported to its members about the stem cell petition. Congratulations again to the organizers! From the AHA newsletter: 7) HHS gets stem cell petition with 13,000 signatures HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson's office is considering a 13,000-signature petition presented by the Massachusetts General Hospital Neurological Web Forum, urging President Bush to continue public funding for embryonic stem cell research. The forum announced today that it presented the petition last week to Mary Mantho, HHS senior policy adviser, to be given to Thompson. The research into stem cells, or "master cells" that can transform into any cell type, has become controversial in recent weeks as many right-to-life organizations claim it destroys the lives of unborn children. Others, including a group of 80 Nobel Prize winners, have urged the president to continue funding the research that may lead to cures for such diseases as Alzheimer's, diabetes, Parkinson's, heart disease and others. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
