Dear List Serv Members:

For the past two years, people with Parkinson's that are residents of the
state of Florida have had available to them "Care Centers" which are offices
that provide medical care for Parkinson's disease as well as outreach
services. The National Parkinson Foundation received a substantial grant
from the state of Florida to open these centers, which currently, there are
seven. These services are available regardless of the person's ability to
pay. When an HMO says that the person cannot go to a Movement Disorders
Specialist, our Centers will provide care for these people. These Centers
all have Coordinators that have started support groups, helped maintain
existing support groups, have started Young Onset Groups, host tai chi
classes, exercise classes, seminars educational lectures, Inservices to Long
Term Care facilities and hospitals and provide respite in two locations and
various other programs for people with Parkinson's, their caregivers and
families.

The current grant expires this month...June 30, 2001. NPF applied for a
renewal of the grant and it was passed in legislature, however, Govenor Jeb
Bust MUST sign this bill. In order to bring the importance of this to Gov.
Bush's attention, we are writing letters and emails to him asking him to
sign the bill.

For the sake of all the people with Parkinson's in Florida who benefit from
this program, we are asking for your help. Please write a letter or an
email to Governor Bush asking him to sign this bill.
