hi all the following is cross-posted from the mgh pd webforum janet ---------------------------------------------------------- Author Topic: " The Big Lie " Chy7 posted 07-07-2001 12:14 AM ---------------------------------------------------------- Many doctors tell their new PD patients, don't worry you don't die from Parkinson's Disease. I just read dozens of people's remarks on the Stem Cell Petition who say otherwise. You may die from something else before PD gets you but as of now it is going to get you someday. Chy7 ---------------------------------------------------------- lc_lil posted 07-07-2001 12:40 AM ---------------------------------------------------------- Hey Chy, Dropping in to cheer us up eh? Well another big one was the "cure in 5 years"; hope the new and extended prediction of "cure in 10" isn't. But hey they have good intentions. lil ---------------------------------------------------------- Chy7 posted 07-07-2001 01:02 AM ---------------------------------------------------------- I knew you would be first. Also 3 years left on the 5 it is going to happen wait and see. ---------------------------------------------------------- LynnZ posted 07-07-2001 04:18 AM ---------------------------------------------------------- Why do so many neurologists know so little about PD? ---------------------------------------------------------- janet313313 posted 07-07-2001 04:36 AM ---------------------------------------------------------- neurologists are 'victims' of the same lack of parkinson's awareness that has shrouded us all until 10 years ago or so there was no public disclosure of pd people with pd concealed their symptoms while they could, and when they couldn't, they went into hiding, figuratively and literally put it down to shame, despair, embarrassment, lack of acceptance, clinical depression, lack of support etc levodopa, the gold standard for symptom relief, was only discovered to be effective with pd 30-ish years ago we are all still learning how to best make use of it, plus all the other meds and procedures which have come along since hiding pd in the closet may bring some comfort to those tied up in shame knots, but dragging it out into the light is the only way to dispel ignorance, encourage better support and treatments, and raise awareness and demands for research and dragging pd out into the light is precisely what we are doing here and now janet ---------------------------------------------------------- http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/ubb/Forum71/HTML/004820.html janet paterson: an akinetic rigid subtype, albeit perky, parky . pd: 54/41/37 cd: 54/44/43 tel: 613 256 8340 email: [log in to unmask] . snail mail: 375 Country Street, Apt 301, Almonte, Ontario, Canada, K0A 1A0 . a new voice: the nnnewsletter: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/janet313/ . a new voice: the wwweb site: http://www.geocities.com/janet313/ . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
