there's no doubt about it
we who have been diagnosed with a
chronic incurable degenerative neurological condition
have been brought smack up face to face
with a life changing traumatic experience
which needs to be dealt with
which needs to be grieved over
before we can then get on with the rest of our lives
everyone needs to work through five stages of grieving:
1. denial
2. anger
3. bargaining
4. depression
5. acceptance
we all go through them at our own pace and in our own order
and sometimes we get stuck in one of them
which in parkies is classically clinical depression oriented
since fifty percent of us have cd already anyway
we have not been punished
we cannot foresee the future
we are not running this show
we have been given a challenge to learn from
medical ignorance about pd is
like everything else we face
something we can complain about and despair of
or
something we can regard as a challenge to overcome
the choice is ours
unless our perceptions are so muddied by cd that we cannot think clearly
but even though we may not be able to see it at the moment
the choice is always there ready and waiting
