Sex Drug Ready to Rock and Roll (from Popular Science, July 2001)

A new drug to treat erectile dyfunction called vardenafil may actually be
more effective than Viagra.
In clinical trials, the drug improved erections in 80 percent of the 580 men
who took it.  also reported an increased ability to complete sexual
intercourse with ejaculation.  Vardenafil is slightly different chemically
from sildenafil, the chemical component of Viagra, making it nine times more
potent.  The end result is faster onset -- 20 to 30 minutes versus an hour
for Viagra, and potentially fewer side effects.
In the future, the competition will likely get even, eh, stiffer.  Another
drug in clinical trials called ciali that takes effect with 15 minutes and
lasts up to 24 hours.  It's like Viagra on steroids!  For men who don't
respond to pills, MacroChem is working on a rub-on gel.  Vardenafil and
cialis could hit the market by early 2002.
