Hello everyone:

It has been a hectic weekend, the list was locked and we had one person placed on review.

Last week through an administration snafu with the listserv, the archives weren't updated at the Utoronto. The archives of the last 500 messages to Parkinsn on P-I-E-N-O and Simon Coles archives were unaffected.

One of our members took it upon theirself to repost those messages 'to bring the archives up to date'. In doing so, Sunday, Parkinsn exceeded the 100 message a day limit imposed by the listserv and the list was locked. In other words no messages were distributed until we were advised of the problem the next day. No messages were lost but just delayed.

The deluge of reposted messages caused the list management to set some subscriber accounts to nomail, since their mailboxes were full already. If you ever experience an interruption in your Parkinsn mail, click the mail management button at:

http://www.parkinsons-information-exchange-network-online.com/archive/mailopt.html

Select the button that says send me my Parkinsn Mail Settings. The listserv will send those to you and if you see that your account has been set to nomail, click on the button at the above site which says resume my Parkinsn mail either Single Messages or Digest. This will restore you mail distribution.

RESTORING ORDER

Previously every weekend would wind up in a 'cat fight'. The Parkinsn Charter/Guidelines were established so that list management and the members have a basis for participating in the Parkinsn list while still allowing the free flow of information.

Last week a fight was brewing. Let me say that Barbara Patterson and I for a period of time may read one or none of the list messages so many times we don't see a problem starting. If someone is offended the sequence of steps to take is direct....private email to the person offending the other person. If that fails, email Barbara Patterson or myself advising us of the problem. Under no circumstances should problems be aired on the list. We're not taking sides here, we are exchanging information about Parkinson's and that is the purpose of the list. The email address to reach Barbara or myself is:

mailto:[log in to unmask]

Upon receiving a complaint we will attempt to mediate the dispute and apply the Parkinsn Charter/Guidelines. Gripes and complaints or suggestions should take the same form. List management is not governed by popular vote.

In list management, there is no appeal. Our judgement is final.

'Content of the list' discussions should be with the list management, not a topic of Parkinsn Messages.

SUMMATION

Our problems of the last week are behind us. We placed one member on Review but they decided to signoff the list rather than have Barbara Patterson and I read their messages before posting them to the list. It is very rare we have to implement this part of the Parkinsn list Charter/Guidelines but we take the well being of Parkinsn seriously.

Please enjoy your participation in Parkinsn.
