THE AMERICAS/Canada
Human Embryo Law
Leslie Mackinnon/CBC

The research on stem cells taken from human embryos
could result in groundbreaking medicine, experts say.
Cures for diseases like diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's
would be foreseeable in the future. While research in adult
stem cells continues, specialists argue that they do not yield
the same advantages as embryo stem cells. In the United States,
federal funding for stem cell research is prohibited but private labs
are allowed to continue with their work.

Leslie Mackinnon of CBC has been following the future
of stem cell in Canada.
