Writing & Learning Counsellor Contract Position Ontario College of Art & Design, Canada's leading institution for advanced education in art and design, invites applications for the one-year full-time contract position of Writing & Learning Counsellor. Reporting to the Director, Registrarial & Student Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of OCAD's Writing & Learning Centre. Responsibilities: The Writing and Learning Counsellor will: < maintain the Centre's current programs and services to meet the specific academic needs of visual art and design students, including one-on-one and group tutoring, workshops and/or non-credit programming < assess and document the students' academic skills and learning needs < maintain a program of Peer Tutors, Mentors, and Teaching Assistants, including recruitment, training and supervision < liaise and plan collaborative programming with the Library, Academic Computer Centre, Admissions, Foundation Studies, Liberal Studies, and the Services for Students with Disabilities office < promote academic skills and critical literacy internally and provide information on services to students < provide leadership in the area of academic skills development, including reading, writing, research and critical thinking skills < provide a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in rhetoric/composition < serve on the Learning Resources Advisory Committee < assist with other related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of the Writing & Learning Centre Qualifications: < Master of Education degree or equivalent combination of education and experience < A minimum of three years experience and a record of professional activity in post-secondary education, familiarity with English as a Second Language issues, adult learning, and/or writing instruction < Strong organizational abilities and oral and written communication skills < Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and concerns of students < Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player with the ability to develop consensus among faculty, students, and administration < High level of initiative and a particular interest in working within the curricular context of a visual art and design educational institution < A commitment to quality service provision Terms of Employment: As this is a maternity leave replacement, the expected duration of this full-time contract is October 1, 2001 to September 27, 2002. Salary is commensurate with experience and career achievement, plus 10% pay in lieu of vacation and benefits.
