Mike, From a nurse's perspective, I wouldn't say that your neurologist has given up. I'd say he's doing the right thing. Any doctor who is unable to figure out how to help a patient should make a referral as long as he knows there might be a specialist with more experience who might help him. My Mom's neurologist would just look at my Mom in her increasingly deteriorating condition and say, "Well it looks to me like she's doing pretty well." Needless to say, I moved her to an actual movement disorder specialist and have never regretted the added inconvenience of getting her there. Good luck with your trip. I know it can be difficult.
