The olive oil trade is quite brisk and remunerative especially for those
that are of high quality. These are may grades and varying qualities of
olive oils which are very complex mixtures. The nature of these mixtures
are constantly assessed and if simpler and cheaper substitutes can be found
for those components that add quality to the oils, greater profits can be
reaped. In many cases, the problem is economic, but at times it may become
one of health when toxis substances are involved. The quality of foods such
as this is regulated by the FDA, which has the power of recalls and if need
be, to seize and destroy. This is likely what happened!
