Once more I am compelled to refute a misguided opinion advanced by one of the regular contributors to PIEN. The statement in question was, "Those who relied on the fantasy of a ' missile shield ' to protect us have had a stunning wake-up call today." To the complete contrary....the people who SHOULD observe today's events as a wake-up call are those so naive to believe that we SHOULD NOT invest in a missile defense. Do they believe that any government or group who would organize and carry out an attack like today's would hesitate in using an atomic warhead on New York or Washington if it were available? We have a limited period of time to act before that availability becomes a reality. If this country does not go forward with at least a limited SDI, then perhaps it will not be very long before New York, Washington, or some other American population center joins the cities that were mentioned..... Berlin, Dresden, London, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. While I respect the nice lady's right to her opinion, I also feel I have a right to refute it with a modicum of common sense.
