Professor Tiner,

Regarding Modern English dialects, as a foreign student of English, I came
across two helpful books which may also be of some interest to you.

P. Trudgill and A. Hughes, 'English Accents and Dialects' (Arnold)

P. Trudgill, 'Dialects of England' (Blackwell)

The former comes with cassettes containing samples of each dialect. Both
are still in print and easily obtainable.
