Parkinson's Disease research breakthrough in Saskatoon

SASKATOON - Scientists in Saskatoon say they've made a
breakthrough in research into Parkinson's Disease. They hope
their discovery will help them find ways to slow down the
condition and then, eventually, to cure it.

Dr. Ali Rajput is a member of the research team.

Rajput says they've found a new compound in the brain of
Parkinson's Disease patients. They've also found that the
highest concentration of the compound is in the areas of the
brain which are most affected by the disease.

The scientists hope they can use the discovery to develop
a blood test for early detection. A cure could follow.

The research team plans to explore these findings further
during a five-year-long clinical study.
