The problem may not be at all medication related.

PWP's have trouble swallowing, especially at the later stages. Also, there
maybe excessive saliva and nostril (phlegm) production. Food, saliva and
phlegm can get into the airpipe (windpipe) where then the natural response
of the body is to cough to remove the offending material.
The situation can be made worse when the PWP sleeps on their back so that
the stuff can flow toward the back of the throat.

In extreme cases of inhaling material  Aspiration Pneumonia results.

Caution needs to exercised to prevent materials from entering the windpipe
accidentally.
