I just thought I would add my two cents here - I was one of the very lucky
people - I had disability insurance, and two retirements - but I was also in a
bad family situation and my job was my "escape"...besides which I truely loved
what I was doing. So when my boss suggested I take an early retirement, I
fought tooth and nail to keep it - and I did, up until the stress and pd
progression made it impossible for me to continue.  I wish now I hadn't been
quite so hardheaded, and spent more time with my kids while I had that
opportunity. Just one of those for what it's worth...
