(My opinion only)
Stick with whatever medication makes him feel better.  Nutrition could be
used as a secondary treatment , but I doubt that it will do much good alone.

At age 70 I would even start on Sinemet if the agonists don't work.

Sounds to me like your neuro is on the right track.
