This year the VA has opened six PD Centers of Excellence, in Philadelphia,
PA, Portland, OR, Houston, TX, Richmond, VA, San Francisco, CA and West Los
Angeles, CA . My husband was diagnosed by a private neurologist with PD
three weeks ago, and he has an appointment at a VA PD Center in late
November - the soonest he could get. When speaking with the person making
the appointments, she told me that they have had trouble getting ReQuip for
patients, that Sinemet is what is usually prescribed. Doesn't sound to me
as though the VA has "Centers Of Excellence," more like Centers of
Outdatedness," if they are not using the current beginning PD drugs of
choice - dopamine-agonists.
