Hi everybody! I am not 100% certain how to use effectively the Parkinson site. Your first contact has been well perceived. To give you more information about ourselves: We live in Ontario, Canada. Although my husband was just diagnosed at age 65, he could have had start of disease for a year or so, or earlier. Always a good sleeper, his sleep got suddenly disturbed and his anxiety increased to the point that family doctor put him on sleeping pills, which we shortly discontinued due to possibility of addiction. About 6 months after sleep disturbance, his dominant hand started shaking progressively worse. This is true Parkinson shaking motion. In 6 month time he also lost 5 pounds, which is a lot considering that he was skinny before diagnoses. He has appetite to eat and eats all foods prepared from "scratch". To make the things worse he has diabetes for which at the moment he is taking the oral medication and this disease is under control. With supplements we noticed he got a little bet more energy. Our family doctor told us that we do not have in Ontario one good neurologist specializing in Parkinson as there are many neurological disorders.
For our family doctor levadopa is a standard. He did not even discuss the use of agonists. We will raise this issue with the neurologist and see how far we come. Because of my husband's body visibly weakening we decided to go camping this February to Texas and Arizona, ones of our favourite spots. We have passion for camping. We do not know how long we will be able to travel on long distance. This shaking can spread on the other parts of the body. I understand each person is different with Parkinson disease. Some of you seem to manage pretty well. My observation is that it all depends what other conditions effected person has and at which age Parkinson struck the person. Young people may have better endurance and can fight longer.
If you can give me any assistance I would appreciate. (By the way for neurologist we may have to wait 4 months in Ontario. I know we are in no hurry other than to be herd..)
Emily

Welcome Emily, you have come to the right place. First of all I would
like to suggest that your husband see a MDS,
  movement disorder specialist. They are
nueros but also specialize in diseases
such as parkinsons, ms and numerous other nuerological disorders. Where
are you located? Perhaps someone on the list
would be able to steer you toward area support groups or even recommend
a specialist in your area. You did not mention how recently your husband
received his diagnosis. How long has he had symptoms, what sort of
  symptoms etc.?
Stick around you will find plenty of very good info plus lots of support
  from a very
  caring bunch of folks.
  Juanita CG for George 75/ 71/ 64
  CG means caregiver
  Numbers mean:
75 age now 71 age at time of diagnosis
64 approx time of onset of earliest symptoms.
