Edward, Your mother sounds like a remarkable person. She showed courage in facing her situation and making changes when she needed to, as well as great resilience and adaptability that allowed her to adjust to those changes. That she could make new friends wherever she went was a great gift. I am sure that the love and support of you and your siblings meant the world to your mother.
