Like others on this forum, I firmly believe that Julian should be put on the proper medicine as soon as possible. For me (and I was diagnosed about five years ago), that medicine was Mirapex when it was first available around four-and-a-half years ago. Relief was immediate and profound, and is still fairly effective to this day. I am fairly certain that there is information in the Parkinson's information Exchange Network Archives indicating that there appears to be a pronounced slowing of disease progression while taking Mirapex. I feel certain that that is the case with me, side-effects notwithstanding, as I believe my condition to be much the same as when I started on Mirapex.
