Hi,

My wife, Win, 72, is the PWP in this family. Briefly - she was Dx in Jan
'97, fell and broke her sacrum damaging the nerves that serve the pelvic
organs and area in Feb '99, resulting in both bladder and bowel
retention, as well as continuing general pelvic area pain. She had to
self-catheterise at least three times a day, and have water enemas
(usually twice a day).

This became a real problem, particularly as PD progressed, so she had a
cystectomy, urostomy and colostomy performed last September.

This has made urine and faeces management much simpler, but she still
has a lot of pelvic area pain. Her specialist urologist diagnosed this
pain as the pelvic floor muscle going into spasm, and prescribed Valium
as a muscle relaxant. This helped initially, but she feels that her PD
symptoms have worsened (some of the things she has noticed are listed as
side effects of Valium). Her Neuro said the Valium would not affect PD,
but she believes it has. She discontinued Valium after about a month.

She has sleeping problems, and had been using Temazepam (1 or 2 10mg per
night) prior to taking Valium. Valium helped her to sleep better than
the Temazepam. She has now recommenced taking Temazepam.

Has any other list member had any experiences with Valium (Diazepam)?
Good, bad or indifferent?

Ditto Temazepam?

We would appreciate any and all feedback,

Regards,

Lionel R. Modra
