Scott,

It makes sense to at least pursue the possiblity of taking an
antidepressant. Many, many people, including a high percentage of PWPs, take
mood, anxiety, or psychotropic drugs. It may mean another pill for you to
take, and it may mean another group of side effects, but it could also mean
an increased quality of life for you and a means for you to gain some
increased control, some increased satisfaction, with your life, your
environment, your family, your job, and your newly diagnosed disease. I
would encourage you to make an appointment with the appropriate professional,
who can prescribe medication for you, and explore the possiblity of an
antidepressant or other appropriate medication. Many of the antidepressants
take time, normally 6-8 weeks, to be effective so it is important that you
not delay in making an appointment even though you are reluctant to pursue
this possiblity. An antidepressant could be helpful to you, and a
reluctance to take that type of drug or a concern about a stigma from taking
that type of drug should not prevent, or inhibit, you from getting the help
you may need. I wish you luck in learning how to deal with this disease,
and I do hope that you do manage to achieve an improved quality of life
despite this disease. Katie
