Re-Wired for Life Foundation is a non-profit organization created to promote the understanding of deep brain stimulation (DBS) among patients, their families, and medical professionals through dissemination of information, patient support meetings, medical professional meetings, and research development. This site offers assistance to patients in dealing with their day to day condition before, during, and after surgery and offers related educational and informational services as they become available. Have you had DBS/STN? Re-Wired for Life invites you to complete The Survey of PD Patients with DBS/STN Surgery. This unique survey is designed to collect and compare the individual circumstances leading up to, through, and after surgery. Why should you take the survey? For the majority of those who had the surgery, “it” works. They know that the quality of their life has dramatically improved. The question is how long will “it” work. By registering your experiences, improvements, and problems — with total anonymity — the survey will help us answer that question. As more people take part in the survey, we will be providing periodic summaries and statistical information to all patients who participated in the survey. Are you considering DBS/STN and looking for more information? DBS/STN is one of the most dramatic advances in decades for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It is non-destructive and reversible. It may decrease the need for medications, may have a positive effect on all the symptoms of PD, and may reduce the disabling unpredictable movements (dyskinesias) that are a result of levodopa medication. It can also control the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease on both sides of the body. For more information, we invite you to join our Forum to post questions and respond to questions posted by others. Re-Wired for Life was founded by Dr. Patrick Kelly, M.D., F.A.C.S., Professor and Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery and Drs. Aleksandar Beric and Djordje Sterio, neurophysiologists of The Center for the Study and Treatment of Movement Disorders at NYU Medical Center.
