Janet,

Do you know the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Snow Queen? At its
opening, some imps from Hell are flying over the Earth holding a hideous
mirror that makes everything it reflects look ugly. By accident they drop it
and it shatters into a million tiny fragments. Some of them lodge in people's
eyes and these poor mortals can no longer see beauty in anything. Everything
they see is distorted into ugliness.

What you call the glums, I think of as mirror vision...those days when one
only sees the laundry, the bills, the frustrations, the losses, one's own
limitations and inadequacies. It's a nasty thing to go through. It passes,
and that is a comfort, but really only after the fact. As you point out,
intellectually knowing that the negative thoughts are tainted doesn't
necessarily dispel them.

So hang in, Janet. Watch a video, put on some music, distract yourself. Your
bathroom will get repaired, your dust bunnies will disappear, your laundry
will get done. Your vision will clear and you'll be your perky self once
more. It's the waiting it out that is hard.

Thinking of you,
Kathleen
