hi all why am i not really surprised? haven't i been ranting about female hormones and pd since 1995? this is great news for all hurray for research janet ---------------------------------------------------------------- Refractory nonmotor symptoms in male Parkinson patients due to testosterone deficiency: A common unrecognized comorbity Testosterone deficiency accounts for several important nonmotor symptoms in male PD patients, and can be treated with testosterone, according to this study. Five patients with symptoms of testosterone deficiency were assessed with the St. Louis Questionnnaire, a validated instrument for deficiency, and confirmed by serum measurement. Self- or spouse-reported decreased libido was most predictive of response to testosterone supplementation. Improvements were seen not only in libido but also in depression and anxiety, symptoms which had proved refractory to antidepressants and anxiolytics in several patients. In 68 male PD patients, 35% had testosterone deficiency, with 2.8-fold increased risk per decade, and a significantly steeper decline in serum levels than in normal controls.
