Wake Forest to broadcast neurosurgery live on the Web April 17, 2002 Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center plans to perform North Carolina’s first live Webcast of a surgical procedure next week, when it broadcasts the implantation of a deep brain stimulator intended to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. The Webcast, which is intended for physicians and other health care professionals, as well as the general public, will also be the world’s first live Internet broadcast of such an operation, according to the hospital. Dr. Stephen Tatter, a neurosurgeon at the hospital, will implant two electrodes in a patient’s brain and attach them to a stimulator device that will be implanted under the patient’s collarbone. The broadcast will take place April 24 at 5 p.m. EST. The event will be archived on the hospital’s Web site (www.wfubmc.edu ) for viewing at any time in the next year (AHA News, 4/16). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
